We recently had the chance to get near the top floor of one of the tallest buildings in Ulaanbaator. Here are some photos of our city - looking quite nice now the green trees are back for summer.
In the photo above you can see the road that we take to get Alesia to school and back each day. Without traffic it takes 5 minutes. In traffic it can take an hour. It is about 5 km from our apartment. Alesia's school is the low orange building in the top right corner (behind the tall yellow and brown apartment buildings)
The city is surrounded by the poorer settlements called "ger districts" These have a mixture of small houses and traditional yurts. They have no running water or sanitation. About 60% of the people in the city live in these areas, which branch out in all directions from the city.
Peace Avenue, the Post Office (and the Coke sign) at night.
