After snow at Terelj on Friday night, then bitter cold wind at Mandshir Khiid on Saturday we took ourselves back to UB and a hot bath in our apartment. Then on Sunday we were ready to go out again. The wind was calmer, the temperature a bit higher, so we decided to go for a drive east up the Tuul River with some friends from VSO (UK-based volunteer organisation).

We drove for an hour or so before stopping on a nice bend in the river. Everyone laughed at me while I tried to put my wind/sun shade tent up, but as you can see below we were all sitting in the leeward side of it pretty soon! The wind was gusty, not as cold as the day before but still really really strong.

Keira decided that the wind tent wasn't enough and set up camp in the back of the ADRA car.

We had stopped near a herder's winter shelter. They would keep all their stock in here during the coldest part of the winter. I am not sure why the ground has been dug up (as you can see in the photo) but it was an interesting texture.
