My big tomatoes now have lots of flowers. Thanks to Aunt Sallymae's suggestion I researched how to pollinate tomato plants indoors - and now I am giving the plant a good shake several times a day to get the pollen in the flower to mix. I will have to convince Chris to do this while I am in the countryside!
The plants themselves are big now, reaching the top of the window. I have strung them up with bits of old tights that Alesia has put holes in.

These were my seedlings for the no-dig garden bed featured a few posts ago. It keeps on snowing though, so they didn't make it into the garden bed. I put them in pots this week (when it was 31 degrees) and then brought them all inside when it was 4 degrees and snowing during the day the next day.

This is a collection of my basil, tomato and other plants getting some sun on the balcony in the morning, before I move them back to the west-facing window sills for the afternoon sun. I spend a bit of time every morning moving pots around depending on the sun and the wind. Then I spend a bit more time in the evening bringing in anything that can't handle the cold (which is most things at the moment).
These are my alpine strawberry seedlings. I understand why most of the gardening advice is to buy strawberry plants already established! They take ages to grow....but I don't have any other option here except seeds. Maybe by the end of summer we will have some fruit. I have been given three big strawberry plants by a staff member who started her strawberry seeds back in January, and they are really happy in pots in the sun in the kitchen.
My only fear is that I am going away for 8 days this week....and the burden of caring for all the plants falls to Chris...
