Our New Years Present

We (or I) decided on New Years' Eve that it was time to start looking for a digital SLR camera. After a lot of reading on the internet, I decided I was probably in the "prosumer" group of cameras, and even though I still don't really understand all the jargon regarding lenses etc I made a choice of two possible models of camera that looked good. We went to Kirk's Camera's in Ringwood in Melbourne - where we have brought camera's and video equipment before when we lived in PNG. To my surprise the salesman agreeed with my choice of camera - and then went to town on selling us two lenses and all the rest of the kit. Just as well we are selling our car! Actually, we have only purchased a relatively simple kit for a beginner. It is amazing how much you can pay for photographic equipment. Since then I have been teaching myself about depth of field (two nice results are displayed in this post), exposure settings, etc. I am having great fun, and working out how to get over being self-conscious when I pull the camera out (it is so big all our friends have commented on it so far). For those who care about such things - we got at Pentax K10D, with two lenses (Sigma Ultra Wide, can't remember the specs, and another zoom that goes from 18 to 250mm). The two photos on this blog were taken wandering around Blackburn creek area one morning - with Keira strapped to my back in her sling and having to cope with her Mum stopping and looking at lots of little things!
