Disability Advocacy

I spent the afternoon with the ADRA Mongolia Education program. They were conducting disability awareness and advocacy activities with a group of "Junior Leaders" from local high schools. Alesia came with me. The activities were based around finding ways for the students to experience what it is like being hearing, visually or physically impaired. Then they spoke together about ways to make schools more inclusive for other kids living with impairments. ADRA Mongolia has a good program in this area and we will be looking to expand it, as disability here is often hidden away and the children with disabilities are denied opportunities for education, etc.

Alesia liked the fact that the demonstration wheelchair was pink, and by the end of the afternoon could propel herself forwards, backwards and in a circle. Below is a photo of my sister, Natalie, hard at work. She presented some of the sessions with the students (I put this photo in for you Mum).
