Keira is nearly five weeks old. I am always amazed at how fast time does go with a new baby, even through the daily/nightly exhaustion of three hour feeds. Keira is engaging more with things around her, which gives us more picture opportunities. She sleeps a lot, except for her evening restless time, and when Aleisa is at day care I get quite a few hours to myself at home during the day. Because I am not working yet and uni doesn't start until March these times are almost a break!
We are getting our first smiles and it is fun to see what takes Keira's attention and what doesn't. Alesia also enjoys helping me with nappy changes and getting the bottle ready. I have had a bad cold, and have been left with an annoying cough that is worse at night. So that has made the night feeds harder. But we can't complain as Keira goes back to sleep after each night feed so there has been no walking the floor.
I have posted a funny photo of Alesia. I was vacuuming upstairs yesterday. When I was finished I came down and found Alesia had shut her bedroom door. This is not unusual, as she hates the noise of the vacuum. When I went inside she had stacked every lose object from the room on her bed so I wouldn't vacuum them up. That is when I realised that my threat to vacuum up beads when she spills them everywhere had been taken seriously and she was applying it to all her things!
Yesterday Alesia had her first haircut. Her curls have been hanging in her eyes lately, especially when the humidity drops and her hair goes straighter. So while playing "Princess" dress-ups I suggested that the princess might want to go to the hairdresser. She agreed, so we set things up in the bathroom and I had a go at trimming Alesia's hair. Hairdressing is not going to be my new thing, but she looks ok for the moment.
Last night we went to the beach at about 7pm. It is the first summery thing we have done so far since Keira was born. Keira sat on the beach in her car capsule and slept to the sound of the waves. Alesia and Chris built a fort, dug some holes and then we ran around with a ball. Alesia was covered in sand. She fell asleep on the trip home in the car. We got lost in a typical Sydney maze of streets when we turned off to find an Indian takeaway in some local shops and thought we could just find our way out to a main road (whoops - thought we were in Melbourne again) without knowing that we were headed for one of Sydney's national parks in the middle of suburbia. This morning Alesia and Keira both had a bath before Alesia headed off to day care so we could get the sand out of their hair. That is one great thing about Sydney and summer, easy access to so many beaches....
