The house is a mess, several kids are still watching a dvd, parents are chatting....the big party is almost over! Things started just before 3pm when the first guest arrived. We kept everyone busy as they arrived making their own crowns and doing some face-painting (which all ended up as hand painting for some reason). We had a wide age range in kids, due to the diverse nature of our social group here, so it was tricky keeping everyone entertained, but we managed ok. I forgot to pick up my camera during the games and craft (a very loud and long game of pass the parcel) and we forgot to do "Pin the Jewel on the Princess". We ordered in vegetarian Mongolian food - Alesia's favourite. The food arrived on time, complete with a gift for Alesia (we go to this restaurant - Luna Blanca - at least once a week so the staff know our girls well). This year Alesia only got one Barbie, last year was Barbie heaven. She got some lovely gifts from our friends, and it is hard work finding nice children's gifts here.
Alesia chose her own birthday cake last night - a frothy, fussy, concoction that was basically sponge covered in fake cream. It had sparkles on it though, which is all that matters!
Eating was typically chaotic, but everyone got enough food. The dirty dishes in the kitchen await me. The jelly slice was a bit hit. The kids went crazy after eating the homemade rocky road.
We got everyone to write or draw a picture for Alesia's birthday. It was a big hit with the kids, and we don't have too much marker on the wall....
The bigger boys were happy with books, and felt like real men when I said they could have one of the Bavaria 0.0% flavoured beer cans that I had for the "grown ups".
I got tired of the running and screaming after the food and games were all done. So we capitulated and put on a DVD. They are still watching Tinkerbell, and slowly kids are going home. Ahhh, I am glad Alesia only has one birthday a year! We missed having family here, but Alesia had a great time being a crazy princess!
