Re-entry Thoughts

Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia:
  • The place where you don't put toilet paper in the toilets
  • The place where queues and orderly lines are a foreign concept (I relearned this principle when trying to collect my luggage from the carosel at the airport)
  • The place where in minus 20 it is still possible to see a funky young woman on the street in a mini and irridescent purple tights, and knee-high boots with stilletto heels
  • The place where cars (or their drivers) behave more like horses than machines
  • The place where if you have a bingle the police decide on the spot who is at fault and determine the fine (payable immediately)
  • The place where it is common to step over globs of spit and snot on the ground - frozen in winter, sticky in summer
  • The place where it is possible to rub shoulders with a hip hop star or model at the bus stop
  • The place where fashion is a higher priority than food (in upper classes)
  • The place where steam coming from an open manhole indicatees that it is a warm place to sleep overnight
  • The palce where it is possible to conduct an entire conversation using two sylables - Ahhhh and Zahaaa
  • The place where reindeer skin boots are not considered bad taste
