We try to get out somewhere most weekends, otherwise Chris and Alesia drive each other crazy at home (Chris just wanting to be left alone to complain that there is no AFL on Sydney tv, and Alesia wanting to play with Chris all the time). As we live two minutes walk from the train station we sometimes use the Daytripper fare (all day anywhere on bus, train and ferry special ticket) for us - the girls are still free. We caught the train into Circular Quay and visited the Museum of Contemporary Art (MCA as the locals call it). Despite some misgivings we found that the exhibits were fantastic. Alesia's favourite was a huge image of a sunset that was made of big circle sequins strung together. A fan was blowing the exhibit gently, so all the sequins were sparkling. Alesia couldn't move away from it. It is by an artist called Nell. I grabbed a photo of it from a website - but the photo does not do the exhibit justice.
We all enjoyed the exhibit by Michael Nui. This one had lots of different things that were excellent, but the main part was a series of PVC poles standing around with what looked like random squiggles on them. But when you viewed the squiggles from a certain perspective through a video camera you could read a message. Part of the message is below (in a picture borrowed from the MCA website).
Here is Chris, Alesia and Keira up in Sydney Tower. We had not done this before, but the Daytripper ticket gave us a discount so we thought even though it was raining we would check it out. From MCA we caught a ferry around to Darling Harbour and then walked up to the Sky Tower. Chris and Alesia did the interactive ride thing. I had to leave with Keira when we got to the exciting part with the moving seats as apparently it is too loud for children under 4 (lucky Alesia is tall!). The views up the tower were great, interesting to watch the rain clouds roll in from the south and see the sun shining in the west and turning that part of the harbour and city gold.
