This statue is at the base of a small mountain in the centre of Tsetserleg. The blue scarves are wrapped around anything that is sacred or special. They reflect the blue sky, which is central to traditional Mongolian religious thinking.

Alesia likes making mud pies when she gets a chance. The water here was still pretty icy, but she cooked up a big batch of pies and decorated them with small wild flowers and dandelion fluff.
The imperial map monument was a good place to break our journy home. It has a manufactured ovoo in the centre and maps around the outside depicting various forms of the Mongolian geographic boundaries through history.

This is Natalie with a jar of gerkins just outside the map monument. Three days later she was packed up and had left Mongolia to work with ADRA Solomon Islands. We really miss her.
